Overbrook Golf Club Wedding: Nicky & Mike

This is another good one!!  I first met Nicky many, many years ago when she was just a kid. (I’m still the same age though, in case you were wondering). I am friends with some of her relatives and we used to all hang together at family parties. Fast forward a good decade and a half and now she’s all grown up, graduated college, met the man of her dreams, fell in love, and got all married and stuff. She’s not 12 anymore!  Nicky always had a huge personality and she has met her match with Mike. What a great and fun couple, it was so much fun photographing their wedding and hanging out with her family once again. My abs still hurt from laughing with them all day! (Actually it’s also plank pose contributing to that.) 🙂

St. Matthew’s Church in Conshohocken, PA and the the Overbrook Golf Club in Radnor both set the scene for this spectacular wedding day. (Who cares that it rained most of the day?). It was a great day all around, filled with family and friends and good old fashioned fun.  These are my favorite moments from the day. Enjoy!

And a little about Nicky and Mike, as told by Nicky:

How did you meet? Mike and I met in downtown Philadelphia at an Erin Express bar crawl. I was with my cousins for their birthday, and Mike was with one of his friends who met up with our group. He immediately caught my eye. He made the first move by telling me “what big wrists” I had…he’s lucky he’s cute. We chatted the whole night. He got my number on a bar napkin, and asked me out on our first date!

The proposal: Mike proposed at Linvilla Orchards in Media. My parents and aunts were with us. It was Halloween weekend and extra crowded. I wasn’t suspecting anything. We were walking around trying to find a nice spot for a family picture (which was tough on such a packed day). We finally stopped in the orchard, and Mike went to get on one knee. I was so surprised, I ugly cried very hard- we have photo evidence. We went back to Media for dinner and Mike’s parents joined us (I got an emergency manicure because my nails were also surprised). My extended family surprised us later as well for drinks at our favorite bar. One of my most favorite days.

What were some of your favorite moments from your wedding day? I loved it all! Getting ready with the girls, my first look with my dad, and the trolley ride to church. True highlight was walking down the isle toward Mike, and getting to see him for the first time. Also cocktail hour- love cocktail hour. Mike loved hanging with the guys while getting ready, waiting at the end of the aisle and seeing me walk towards him, and the reception. Especially, greeting our guests as husband and wife, and our first dance.

What’s next on your calendar as a couple? We’re currently on our honeymoon! Starting in Prague, and then headed to Vienna and Switzerland. When we get home, we’re excited to furnish and work on the house we purchased in Media last July. We’d love to get a pup in the coming months, and start our family.

Any advice for future couples planning their weddings? We had had a 17 month engagement. It really allowed us to save money, have our first choice of vendors, pace the planning, and prepare. Trust your judgment. Wedding planning requires a lot of decisions- colors, flowers, music, etc. and it will all come together in the end!
