Sayen Gardens Micro-wedding: Rachel & Matt

  • When planning your wedding, what were you most looking forward to?The cake tasting! We also really wanted to see the 3D renders of our custom rings and might have pestered the jeweler a bit. Thankfully they have amazing customer service. Also, getting the actual rings and trying them on.
  • What were some of your favorite moments from your wedding day? Mingling with family and friends we hadn’t seen in a long time. The food and cake at the Peacock Inn was quite good. Matt’s aunt was also kind enough to pay for a room for us at the Inn, and we definitely enjoyed their jacuzzi!
  • If you could do it all again, would you change anything? The weather report had fluctuated between light rain and overcast the whole week. We had planned for an outdoor ceremony but hadn’t come up with a rain-day plan until the week before. Thankfully it didn’t rain and we didn’t need to use the tent we booked, but it was a bit of a scramble to plan something last minute!
  • Any advice for future couples planning their weddings? Don’t over think things! It’s just one day, and if anything goes wrong most likely no one will know anyway, unless you make a big deal out of it. We splurged on the rings and the photography because these will last beyond the wedding day. Have the in-laws meet each other prior to the wedding at least 1-2 times. Makes things a lot less awkward on the wedding day.
  • Is there anything else you would like to add? Relax and have fun! We didn’t do a lot of the more traditional wedding activities and kept things really simple due to Covid—very small guest list, no DJ/band or flowers, no bouquet or garter belt tosses, no assigned seating, just a ceremony and a nice restaurant for dinner with good food and cake. Even with no dancing or games, people genuinely had a good time. Plus, we were able to save a lot of money and put it into a house instead because we’re a little crazy and planned a wedding, bought a house and planned a kitchen remodel all within 6 months.
