NJ Backyard Micro-wedding: Jess & Dylan

Jessie and Dylan were “supposed” to have their big wedding in April, but due to obvious reasons (I’m looking at you, you pesky global pandemic), they decided to get married in Jessie’s parents’ backyard in July. It was intimate and emotional and better than they could have ever imagined. Everyone remained healthy and safe and happily ever after.  🙂

When planning your wedding, what were you most looking forward to? Overall just celebrations!! Celebrating our love, celebrating our marriage, and having everyone we love in one place together. I just wanted everyone to have fun.

What were some of your favorite moments from your wedding day? After all the cancellations and rescheduling, it was just SO special to have our closest family and friends together. It is not often you have everyone closest to you in the same place. Also, we were in denial for weeks before that it was even going to happen so that moment when we finally realized “this is real” and all the emotions took over.

If you could do it all again, would you change anything? Nothing at all !!! If anything we would’ve planned it this way from the start!! There was just something SO special about getting married in the backyard with our closest family and friends.

Any advice for future couples planning their weddings? DONT STRESS! I know it is so easy to say afterwards but don’t try and paint this absolute perfect wedding day in your head. Before COVID changed our plans I stressed about “what if people are cold in April” and little things like that. Do not let things you can not control influence your day. We ended up getting married on a 96 degree humid day in July in our parents backyard with 50 people (originally invited 200) and when I think back on the day I just think about how amazing and full of love it was.

It’s Never Just a Wedding

I photographed Lizzy and Jess’s wedding in November, and it’s one I’ve thought about often since then. In the weeks leading up to the day, there was some uncertainty about whether Lizzy’s dad, Bruce, would be able to attend.
